SUVA
For years now, SUVA has been educating Estonians that socks need not be the ordinary, purely functional pieces of clothing they tend to be regarded as. True, their cause was aided by a former prime minister who made colourful socks an acceptable part of men’s formal wear. Those hipster offices where everyone leaves their shoes by the front door have played their part as well. And stories are circulating that men are growing ever bolder in their choice of non-shoe foot coverings...
Socks still fulfil the objective they were originally designed to serve, of course, but they can also be a statement, tell a story, embody traditions or promote a country or a piece of art or something taking place in society. They can be made from bamboo or threaded with silver; they can be specially made for sports, or for medical purposes.
